Horseback Ride and Swim At Braco

Explore the historic Braco plantation on horseback before experiencing the thrill of riding in the Caribbean surf.

After meeting your driver and small group at the pier, you will travel along the coast, passing the quaint town of Falmouth on your way to Braco Stables, approximately 45 minutes away.

Braco Great House was built in the mid-18th century and served as a successful sugar plantation and refinery. The original building still stands and currently houses a pimento leaf oil factory. Oil is extracted from the leaves through a condensation process. This oil is exported and used in the preservation of meat and also as a base for many perfumes.

Trail Masters will pair you with a horse to match your riding ability, and then you are off, weaving your way through the countryside, passing through the Braco estate as well as seeing smaller estates along the way. The trail ride meanders down to the north coast shoreline and a private and beautiful beach area. Here, guests are allowed to swim bareback and frolic with the horse in the magnificent Caribbean Sea. Crystal-clear waters and white sands make for great swimming and photo/video opportunities. Enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience of swimming on your horse in paradise. With this experience, you will enjoy riding the horse for approximately 45 minutes, which includes the swim section of approximately 5 minutes.

The ride concludes by the gardens brimming with pimento trees, bougainvillea, and fishtail palms. Lounge with a cool drink from the gazebo and spy on the hummingbirds gossiping with the orchids. Come sample the famous beauty and hospitality of Trelawny, Jamaica!

Returning to the Montego Bay area, you will make a stop for approximately 40 minutes at the Shoppes at Rose Hall, where you can shop or relax with a cup of Blue Mountain coffee. You will then have a driving orientation along the "hip strip" of Montego Bay, the most popular area with visitors.

Please Note: For ships that sail early from Montego Bay, the tour itinerary may be done in reverse.

A photo CD is available to purchase on the day of the tour, however, it is not recommended to purchase the CD as the quality of photos cannot be guaranteed and it is non-refundable. Instead, please feel free to bring a camera with you to capture your own memories. No refunds will be issued once a photo CD has been purchased.

Great times

My husband and I who are in our late 60's absolutely loved this excursion. It was hot, so we enjoyed the water. Great photos were taken and cd was only $10. Must use cash. Only problem was the snack and beverage. After we ate a morsel and drank a beer we were informed there was a charge. Guides were fantastic! I would do it again.

Was a good time

We had a blast. Everyone were so friendly. The horses looked pretty in good shape. The only thing that I wish could be done a little different is be able to ride more on the beach than the trail.

Very good excursion

This was a good excursion, pretty much what you'd expect for a touristy horseback ride. Horses were on skinnier side but seemed fairly well cared for. They just follow each other nose-to-tail, and the guides make you keep them right up against the next horse in line. The trail ride was nice, however the guides don't say a word so you don't really get the ""plantation tour"" we were expecting. The ocean ride is absolutely beautiful and remote, like a postcard. It was great to relax there, we even swam in the ocean on our own for a while and enjoyed a Redstripe or two! (they have a food stand there with typical beer, water, snacks for decent prices.) The ride in the ocean was just okay- it is two people at a time and the guide holds your reins for you so you just sit there holding the horse's mane while they drag your horse through the water for two small circles. It's great for beginners, but not quite what an avid horseperson (like myself) would prefer. Still, a very enjoyable experience and quite a bit of saddle time. Warning: the photographer only takes cash! We ended up using all of the cash we had for the whole trip there since he didn't take credit cards and we really wanted to purchase the CD with our pictures.

A long ride from the ship to the location to ride. Be more fun if we rode the beaches more than we did.
