Ketchikan Lighthouse, Totems & Eagles Excursion

Keep your camera within easy reach, because photo opportunities abound on this seafaring Ketchikan shore excursion, which features guaranteed eagles, multiple eagle nests, Totem Bight State Park, Vallenar Rocks Wildlife Viewing Area, and the historic Guard Island Lighthouse.

Your Ketchikan excursion begins as you board your transit van for a scenic, narrated drive through Ketchikan to Ward Cove. Meet your captain and Alaskan crew at their private dock and board your vessel. You're free to relax in the heated main cabin or enjoy the open-air observation deck, as you witness an abundance of eagles with binoculars provided to you. You will see multiple eagle nests and baby eagles in season. Harbor seals, pigeon guillemots and moon jellyfish are commonly spotted as well. Whales, deer, blue heron and a variety of sea birds are seen throughout the entire season. Along the way, you'll hear of the area's maritime history, the rich Tlingit, Haida & Tsimshian Alaska Native cultures, the timber and fishing industries, and local lifestyles.

You'll observe harvested and old-growth areas of the Tongass National Forest, and travel past historic Ward Cove Cannery. On clear days, you'll circumnavigate the Guard Island Lighthouse established in 1901. No other Ketchikan cruise excursion offers this itinerary, nor offers a view & sights of Totem Bight State Park from the water. You'll view the Totem Bight clan house totem poles, including Ketchikan's tallest totem pole. As you travel past the park, you'll see colorful cabins, mansions of the local rich and famous, and unique homes, many built on their own islands. Your deckhands are pleased to take your picture in front of the totem park, lighthouse or posing with your captain for a memorable photo in the wheelhouse.

Your captain will unravel historic mysteries of Alaska's most dangerous island, Danger Island, as you traverse the waters along the Sarah Palin-famed "Bridge to Nowhere" Island. You will circumnavigate or have clear viewing of a total of 12 islands on your tour route. Many of these islands are inhabited only by Alaska's wildlife.

Enjoy Alaska's most scrumptious Hot Chocolate Supreme, coffee, tea, water or your favorite soft drinks, along with salmon spread, cheese, crackers, fresh fruit, cookies and mints. These are all complimentary and make for a delightful treat as you take in the breathtaking seascape and professional narration. Your Ketchikan excursion boat accommodates around 40 guests, complete with onboard restrooms and gifts for sale.

This was our favorite excursion. Even though the water was rocky n we couldn’t get as close to the lighthouse as they wanted they did all they could for us to get the most from the cruise. It was a great time. From the driver if the van to all the people on the boat were all great.

Great Day out on the Water
October 08, 2019
It was a great day out on the water! The crew was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the wildlife and area. It was great having a smaller group (only about 30 people)! Got to see many eagles (adults and juveniles) and even got to see a couple of whales! The totems & longhouse you mostly see from a bit of a distance but still very interesting. The lighthouse is much more simple than you would think but a good boat cruise out to see it. They provided snacks, drinks and binoculars! With beautiful weather and calm waters it was overall a great way to see Ketchikan and Eagles.

Excellent Boat Tour

Excellent tour. The crew and support staff was fabulous. The driver of the coach that picked us up at the Cruise Dock was very personable and informative on the local history and culture. Our captain of the tour was very knowledgeable and the crew awesome. We loved seeing and hearing about the coast line and very amazed at the wildlife we saw including many eagles up close. Best excursion for the money.

Beautiful Scenery
September 03, 2019
We saw eagles, Lighthouses and Totems as advertised and enjoyed a gorgeous day on top of it. Enjoyed some time with the Captain as he explained various navigation signs & symbols. Enjoyed visiting with nice looking and personable future Captain, Andrew who gave us additional information about the area. Yummy snack with salmon dip - thanks for the recipe! From the Grandma with the German granddaughter!
