Private Highlights of Kota Kinabalu

Spend a half-day at Kota Kinabalu, a fast-growing resort destination and gateway to the island of Borneo.

Also known as Singgahmata, or The Place Where the Eye Lingers, this modern, multicultural city was under British rule until 1963 and lacks many pre-World War II sites due to continual bombing during the war. Head to the city center and gaze up at the impressive Menara Tun Mustapha. Also known as the Sabah Foundation Building, this circular glass structure has 32 floors and is the second tallest building in Borneo.

Stop at the beautiful University Malaysia Sabah campus, the ninth public university in the country teaching more than 17,000 students. Stand in front of Sabah State Mosque and get a photo of the intricate gold inlay motif in the mosque's dome as well as the reflection of the Kota Kinabalu City Mosque with its 4 minarets that are painted on top of the surrounding waters. Visit Sabah Museum with its extensive galleries full of art, ceramics, brassware and historical and archaeological artifacts. While here, learn about the local history and culture, the area's first settlers and the rise of Islam.

Continue on to Signal Hill, aptly named from the practice of signals being sent up the hill using flags. Walk up the stairs at the top and reach the platform to be rewarded with panoramic views of the city and sea below. If time permits you can stop by a local handicraft market for a little browsing and shopping before your return to port.

This special tour is a great introduction to Kota Kinabalu for those who are short on time but want to get a good overview of the city. Reserve your spot today.

Please Note: City authorities restrict the movement of large coaches up Signal Hill due to safety concerns.
