But venture out of the city and you will also experience the natural and historical beauty of Portugal on this magical day trip. Only a few hours from the capital city, Sintra is a wonderous place where daily life and nature exist in perfect harmony.

Your journey begins as you head to the World Heritage site of Sintra, a charming town nestled in the hills of the Serra de Sintra. Meander along narrow, cobbled streets and explore Pena Palace , the colorful and flamboyant 19th century palace of King Ferdinand . After hearing the history of this impressive Palace we will continue to the Portuguese coast to explore the small historical center of Cascais, where the fishing traditions of Portugal still thrive. From here we will continue along the coast and the beautiful beaches of Estoril back to the city of Lisbon .

Back in Lisbon you will enjoy stunning views of the city and the old Moorish quarter of Alfama and a panoramic view of the Castle of Saint George atop the highest hill in town. Visit the city's main squares and see the Discoveries Monument dedicated to past Portuguese discoverers and heroes.

In the district of Belem, you will view the expansive Jeronimos Monastery, completed in the 1600s in an ornate architectural style with complex maritime sculptural themes. Not to be missed is the iconic Belem Tower , part of a medieval defense system at the mouth of the Tagus River .
