Lismore Gardens with Private Transportation

On this half-day tour with private transportation, you will be picked up at the port in a private, air-conditioned vehicle. With spectacular views towards Lismore Castle and the surrounding countryside, the historic Lismore Gardens are set on seven acres of rolling countryside and are a delight to see. Enjoy the freedom to explore the beautiful gardens on your own.

The Upper Garden is a good example of the 17th century walled garden that was first constructed here by the 1st Earl of Cork, around 1605 AD. The outer walls and terraces remain the same but the plantings have changed to match the tastes of those living within the Castle.

The Lower Garden, in contrast, was mostly made in the 19th century and is informal with shrubs, trees, and lawns. There is also a stately Yew Avenue, even older than the garden, that probably dates to the 17th Century. It is thought that Edmund Spencer may have written his the Faerie Queen while being inspired by this view.

After having seen the garden, there is time left to walk to the bridge to view nearby Lismore Castle, which is still a private residence, and take pictures (it is not possible to visit the castle).

From Lismore Gardens, the excursion returns to the ship in Cobh.

Please Note: The visit to the Lismore Gardens is self-guided.
