Exclusive Medieval Tallinn Highlights

Set out with your professional guide who will show you why Tallinn is one of the finest Medieval Old Towns in all of Northern Europe. Enjoy the view from your transportation as you pass the Old Town wall with its towers from the 13th to 15th centuries. Your drive continues past the National Opera and Freedom Square as you make your way to Tallinn's Upper Town.

Upon arrival, you will leave your transportation and begin your walking tour on Dome Hill (Toompea), the site of the Parliament of Estonia. You will be able to see the Long Hermann Tower, the exterior of the Russian Orthodox Church of St. Alexander Nevsky, and the exterior of the Lutheran Dome Church (St. Mary's Cathedral) with more than 100 coats of arms. A stroll through the narrow cobblestone lanes and blind alleys will take you to some scenic viewpoints where you can get a magnificent view of the Lower Town with its red rooftops, slender church steeples, and a beautiful view of the sea.

You will then descend to the Lower Town via either the Long or Short Leg and its web of narrow 13th-century streets. You will pass the Great Guild House, House of the Brotherhood of the Blackheads, Church of Holy Spirit, Town Council's Apothecary (1422), and Town Hall (1404).

Your professional guide will lead you through Apteegi (Pharmacy) Lane, Katariina (Catherine's) Passage lined with handicraft workshops, and Muurivahe Lane with the street market of wool and linen products. Your Tallinn Highlights tour ends in the Lower Town where you can shop, stroll or enjoy a meal in one of the many outside cafes. Before departing, your guide can make suggestions.

If your ship does not provide a shuttle service back to the pier, taxis can be hired for approximately 10 EUR (not included). Always negotiate before getting in.

This was one of the best excursions I’ve ever had. Our tour guide Kadia was wonderful! It was touring with a history teacher that didn’t just study a county’s history but lived it. We were on a cruise to many counties and Estonia was my favorite port because of this tour and tour guide. I would highly recommend this excursion to all.

More like a walking tour with history review

Be prepared for walking uphill/downhill. The guide took us to a few places for "shopping" that are not listed in the itinerary, but she is not "pushing" though...

Tallinn

Easy transportation from the ship to old town. Because it was a very small town and 6 ships were in the harbor, it was very very crowded. The guide did her/his (can't remember so I guess the person was not exceptional) to get us around and tell us some history. Mostly this town could have been done without a guide. It was good hearing the history of the country on the bus, though.

We really enjoyed this experience. We learned a lot about the history and culture of Tallinn and had plenty of time to explore afterward. I appreciated the small group and informative guide.

Our bus was waiting for us at the port and it was a very short ride into the city of Tallinn. It was like stepping into a fairy tale. It is a beautiful little place with lovely people and shops that were so welcoming. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the country and how it has arrived at its present day The only issue I had was that the guide should have a microphone to speak and we should have had some type of a hearing device to hear her. Many times words were missed because of the crowds of people there. There is another part of Tallinn that is very different from the old and nothing was mentioned about that. It does seem to be a thriving place and definitely worth the history lesson.
