Discover Misty Fjords National Monument by Floatplane

The Misty Fjords National Monument in Alaska has been carved to impressive perfection by millions of years of glacial activity. On this popular flightseeing Ketchikan day tour, it will take you only the blink of an eye to appreciate nature's handiwork.

The Misty Fjords National Monument is a 2.3-million acre piece of pristine wilderness that must be viewed by floatplane to truly take in its majesty: soaring cliffs, saw-tooth ridges blanketed in trademark mists, sky-blue lakes, endless waterfalls, icy saltwater fjords and miles of glacier-carved gorges.

While you take in the enormity of the Misty Fjords National Monument from above, you will listen to information on the area, as well as appropriate music over your noise-reducing headphones. While taking you on the most scenic flight possible based on that day's weather conditions, your pilot will keep an eye open for wildlife below. While wildlife spotting is never guaranteed on the Ketchikan tour, keep scanning the scenery below, where you may see creatures big and small, from burly brown bears to agile mountain goats; from harbor seals to humpback whales. Depending on the visibility that day, your pilot usually tries to stay approximately 1000 feet above the scenery, offering you the best up-close view from a safe distance. Maximum altitude reached is approximately 4,000 feet above sea level. A water landing on a mountain lake for photos and reflection is included.

The Spectacular Misty Fjords Flightseeing Tour in Ketchikan is a must-see experience that will provide a lifetime of memories.

For safety reasons, talking to the pilot during the flight is not possible. Questions can be asked while at the lake landing and after the flight.

Total flying time, including the water landing time, is approximately 1.5 hours.

Please Note: Large bags and backpacks are not permitted on the aircraft, but can be safely stored in the office. Small purses can be brought on board the plane.

My husband and I went on the Misty Fjords Flightseeing tour in August. I was a little bit nervous to go on the small plane since I'm prone to motion sickness. However I had nothing to worry about. The weather was perfect the day of our tour, the pilot assured me I'd be fine and he was right. The flight was so smooth and the scenery breathtaking that I immediately forgot all my worries. Taking off and landing on the water was such a cool experience. This was definitely one of the highlights of our Alaskan vacation!

We really enjoyed our flight through the Misty Fjords. It was a beautiful day. Sunny with little wind. The flight allowed us to see things we would have never seen otherwise. The view were spectacular. Timing was great. We stopped on the water for a small break after an hour of being in the air and that was a great break. Then we continued for another hour of beautiful sights. Our pilot was terrific!

The Misty Fjords sightseeing trip was the absolute best thing I did while cruising with NCL. First off, Ketchikan is a beautiful town with some of the friendliest people I have ever met. We boarded the plane and within minutes we were airborne. The pilot, whose name I can't remember, was extremely knowledgeable and competent. He clearly loves his job. He flew us over and through the beautiful fjords and pointed out many areas of interest. At one point we saw a group of mountain goats. Slowly approaching them was a huge bear, clearly looking for a snack. We landed in a beautiful lake and disembarked onto one of the plane's pontoons. It was incredibly beautiful, and a once in a lifetime experience. After we returned to the port, the shuttle buses returned us to the downtown area, leaving plenty of time to explore this amazing little town. I highly recommend this trip!

My daughter and I took the Misty Fiords Flightseeing Tour in August. I'm a private pilot so I am always paying attention to what the pilot is doing and how it is being done. Ken was our pilot. He was very professional, friendly and gave us lots of history and information on the area. Everyone on the flight felt very secure with Ken. Landing on the lake was a special treat for us. We both highly recommend this tour.
