Mykonos and the Sacred Island of Delos

Long recognized as one of the great tourist meccas, the island of Mykonos is a postcard perfect Cycladic town with a large number of artists and intellectuals.

Start your adventure on Mykonos with a walking tour of Chora, the island's capital town decorated with an eclectic mix of new and old architecture. Your local licensed tour guide is friendly and knowledgeable and will take you through the winding, ancient streets and past white washed houses, churches and designer shops.

Head to the charming neighborhood of Alefkandra and be welcomed by one of the island's 16 iconic windmills, all built between the 18th and 20th centuries. Alefkandra is commonly referred to as Little Venice thanks to the myriad of 18th century houses with colorful balconies facing the sea. These structures were originally the homes of captains and wealthy merchants who settled in the area. Be sure to have your camera on hand to capture these and many other typical Mykonos sites such as the Paraportiani Church. Also known as the White Church, this structure is a combination of 5 joined churches and is located in the neighborhood of Kastro, where the ancient city of Mykonos was located. While here, pop into the Folklore Museum of Mykonos to see the inside of a 17th century captain's house. Take note of the jewelry, arts, objects and textiles to get a glimpse of what life was like here in centuries past.

It is a short walk from the museum down to the pier to board the boat for Delos; legend has it this sacred island was the birthplace of the god Apollo and his twin sister Artemis. Sail along the scenic western shore of Mykonos as you make your way to the ancient Delos harbor and debark to explore well preserved neighborhoods, ancient marketplaces, the Temple of Apollo and the Famous Terrace of Marble Lions.

Your guide will take you through a Hellenistic Quarter to view the ancient House of Dionysus and House of Kleopatra villas. Take note of the water cisterns, wells, beautiful frescoes and mosaics in some of the wealthy homes. Conclude your tour with a scenic ride back to Mykonos.

Book this tour today and prepare to take endless pictures and make memories from Mykonos to Delos that you will cherish and remember for a lifetime.
