Pompeii and Amalfi Coast Shore Trip

Once a thriving empire, Pompeii was devastated by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD when 30 feet of volcanic ash and pumice stone blanketed the city.

Your journey through this famous archaeological site begins as you are picked up by your guide and driven towards Mount Vesuvius. Once at Pompeii you will enter through one of the ancient gates and make your way to the Forum, the city's economic, religious and political hub. While here, take a few minutes to admire the remnants of iconic columns, once-lavish porticos and more that surround the square. During your guided Pompeii and Amalfi Coast shore excursion, you will walk by travertine streets and see the mansions and art of the wealthier residents who moved to Pompeii to escape the turmoil in Rome.

Your tour continues with a scenic ride along the Bay of Naples to the picturesque seaside city of Amalfi. Situated at the mouth of a deep gorge, this city was a naval power center in the middle ages and today is a popular holiday resort.

Upon arrival you will have 90 minutes to see Amalfi on your terms! Relax with a sumptuous lunch, stroll along narrow medieval streets, collect photos for your wall or simply shop till you drop.

Architectural lovers will want to make their way up a flight of 60 steps to visit the impressive Cathedral of Saint Andrew. This 9th century church has elements of Baroque, Byzantine, Gothic, and Romanesque stylings and boasts 11th century bronze doors by Constantinople.

Alternatively, you can take a boat ride up the Amalfi Coast for an additional fee before your return ride back to Port Salerno.

Book this tour now to explore the world's largest archaeological site and visit the stunning Amalfi Coast.

Please Note: Your 8 hour tour includes guide and transportation. Entrance fees to Pompeii are additional. Guests must be able to walk for a period of time unassisted and on uneven ground at times. No wheelchair access.

Our favorite

The Amalfi coast is beautiful. The village of Amalfi was very cute and had great shops and cafes. This was really an enchanting place. Combining Amalfi and Pompeii in the same trip was tough. Traffic delays did not allow much time to see Pompeii.

Exceptional Guide
July 18, 2022
Our guide was Luca. He was exceptional. He had a depth of knowledge about the local lifestyle, customs and people and he loved to share that knowledge with our small group. He was able to show us aspects of the Amalfi area that a larger group would not have seen and he did it in a very casual, unhurried manner. We never felt rushed or on a deadline. His knowledge and understanding of the Pompeii site was extraordinary. He was very well versed in the culture of the period but also the science and engineering achievements that were evident. He brought some areas of the site to life by relating what we saw to how the residents lived in that time and what shaped their world. I give him 5 stars and recommend him and his group to anyone going to that region.

Pompeii and Amalfi Coast - unexpected costs
October 09, 2019
The Amalfi Coast was our favorite place of all the excursions we took. And our tour guide was very good. What I want to bring to your attention; are all the additional costs so you can advise those who plan to take this excursion. There was a boat tour that was 15 to 20 euros per person extra, lunch at a predetermined restaurant and set menu that the tour guide had planned that was another 15 euros per person and we had to pay to tour through Pompeii; think this was 10 - 15 euros per person. Thankfully we had brought enough euros to cover this; but it required us to have to purchase additional euros once back on the cruise ship as a result. It would have been a great disappointment to have gone on this excursion and not have the necessary funding.

What a treat
August 14, 2019
We actually traveled in reverse order from what is described—Amalfi coast first, then Pompeii. Mix up at outset as directions to meeting place from Shorex were wrong(said “exit pier,” which we did, ending up at city center and calling representative, who told us to go back because Luca, our guide was waiting at cruise ship). Luca was a delight, extremely informative, engaging, knowledgeable and with complete command of English. Trip itself was wonderful. We did boat ride add on, which I recommend, although you can’t really hear Luca’s commentary over motor noise.
