Private Carrara Marble Experience
On this private day tour of the city of Carrara, you will view the world-famous marble quarries that have earned the same name. Carrara marble is used all around the world for a variety of uses, including statues, furniture, and architecture.
From your seat in a state-of-the-art 4x4 Jeep, you'll experience the adventure of a lifetime as you drive around the Italian countryside to see all of the region's oldest quarries. Along the way, you'll be awed by the snowy peaks of the neighboring Apuan Alps.
At Carrara's oldest active quarry, you'll enjoy a meal of traditional Lardo di Colonnata, a rich, flavorful serving of cured pig fat. The meal dates back to the ancient Roman period, when the calorie-dense food would provide all of the energy needed for laboring marble excavators.
Finally, you'll visit a quarry carved deep into a mountain, then travel along the scenic route back to the original quarry area. There, you'll have free time for lunch.
