Private Hike, Float and Summit

This private tour option allows you to experience three great adventures in one when in Skagway. Take advantage of hiking the Chilkoot Trail, floating down the Taiya River and accessing the White Pass Summit on this Skagway shore excursion.

Your Skagway adventure tour begins directly from the pier area, where you are met by your local representative. Be provided with a safety orientation of your day's activities and then board a van for a comfortable, narrated drive through Skagway to the backcountry and to the historic town of Dyea.

At the beginning of the tour, you will arrive at the trailhead of the Chilkoot Trail, the centerpiece of the gold rush history in Skagway, to begin your approximately 2-mile hike. Your guide will provide you with a safety briefing and hand out trekking poles for anyone wishing to use this aid. This world-famous trail was the main route to the riches of the Klondike during the gold rush. Now a tranquil place of incredible beauty, the trail winds through a lush rainforest alive with birds, animals and wildflowers. Enjoy the exercise, fresh air, beautiful scenery, pristine forests, and history of a bygone era as the trail takes you up and over the 350 foot tall Saintly Hill. Along the way, your guide weaves an entertaining mix of natural history and Klondike folklore. Photo opportunities abound as you retrace the footsteps of the gold-hungry stampeders who forged this route over 100 years ago.

Your hike will end at the Taiya River put-in site for your float experience. A safety briefing will be provided and rubber boots and life jackets will be handed out to all guests. Your 18-foot raft awaits for the calm scenic float back to Dyea. During this approximately 30-minute float, you will see the forest give way to fields of beach greens and wild iris, and the granite walls of the fjords rise steeply to the snow-capped peaks and hanging glaciers. Enjoy a riverside snack of homemade cookies and a hot beverage with countless picture-perfect moments before loading up in the van and heading up to the White Pass summit.

You will drive for approximately 45 minutes from the take-out on the river to the top of the scenic White Pass. While on the Klondike Highway, enjoy the many photo opportunities of beautiful alpine lakes, glaciers, towering snowcapped peaks, and pristine forests. View the "Welcome to Alaska" sign and take advantage of many stops for picture opportunities. On your return to Skagway, you will cross through US Customs and have a photo stop at Bridal Veil Falls.
