Explore the Forum and the City of Pompeii

Leaving the pier for your Naples shore excursion, you will begin your journey to Pompeii. Once a major port and a center of wealth and politics, the city was instantly buried beneath 30 feet of volcanic ash and cinder when Mt. Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD. This ancient site is perhaps the most famous archaic excavation in the world.

At its peak, Pompeii was home to approximately 20,000 people. It is believed that 2,000 people perished instantly when volcanic ash poured down on the city, thus creating ghostly casts formed by bodies that were encased and incinerated in the hot ash. Walk along intact streets and inspect prominent mansions, private homes adorned with mosaic floors, brilliant frescoes and other works of art, all of which provide an impression of Roman life just as it was 2,000 years ago.

Upon arrival, you will enter Pompeii through one of its ancient gates, and a short walk takes you to the city's hub, the Forum. Surrounded by lavish temples and porticoes, you will begin to grasp the lifestyle of the past inhabitants. Admire the mansions and the art of wealthy patricians who moved to Pompeii to escape the turmoil of Rome, including countless paintings and inscriptions. See the streets with raised pavements on both sides and the stepping-stones that ensured pedestrians a safe crossing at intersections. After your visit to Pompeii, you will return to Naples.

What a well organized trip by friendly hosts, drivers and a verbally elegant guide. The family from 3 years to 72 had a fantastic time at Pompeii, thank you so much.

The driver and the tour guide were excellent. We were picked up promptly and we were returned to our selected location in a timely manner. The tour guide answered our questions. She knew all the best routes and timetables necessary to see the key features of Pompeii.

We had the same driver and guide for Naples and Pompeii. We saw some beautiful sights and she was knowledgeable of the area and sights but had a difficult time finding the right English word for what she was trying to tell us! Very pleasant though and did enjoy our tour to Naples and Pompeii.

Our tour guide was awesome She was so passionate and knowledgable about Pompeii and the region. We were in Pompeii July. It was so hot! I put it as a Con, but if you are there in July, you would still want to do this tour, you would have to dress as cool as possible if there in the summer and take water bottles. We filled them up many times on our tour(sometimes just to dump them on ourselves). Our guide met us right at the ship, we were taken in a comfortable A/C van to Pompeii, about 25 min away. There was no pressure to buy at souvenir stands as you sometimes feel on tours. Roberta truly could answer anything about Pompeii and Vesuvius. She used an excellent book to illustrate what the city used to look like (which we actually ended up purchasing when we saw that book in Rome at a souvenir stand). Our driver was excellent too, dropped us off at shopping close to the port. Was very helpful! They allowed us to determine when the tour was done, which was excellent as for some in our group, it was simply to hot. I would do this tour again!
