Private Pompeii, Sorrento & Positano

Leaving from the cruise ship marina in Sorrento bright and early, this full day private tour will take you on an exploration of Pompeii, Sorrento, and Positano. A private driver will make this the easiest tour you can imagine.

The almost 2000-year-old ruins of the city of Pompeii were excavated in the 18th century and remain wonderfully preserved to this day. Wander the ancient roads and alleys and peer through time into the windows of temples and villas of the ancient city. The bones of this once glorious city are still colorful with frescoed walls, mosaics, and even ancient graffiti, though some is still buried by the volcanic ash from the 79 AD eruption of Mount Vesuvius.

After exploring the ancient ruins, you will move on to Sorrento, one of the jewels of the Amalfi Coast. Enjoy the lush views of olive groves and vineyards, and take a deep breath to savor the fragrant lemon and grapefruit trees that pepper the gardens that are tucked into the terraces of this uniquely beautiful town.

From there you'll head to Positano, the postcard-pretty town that rises along the cliffside, where houses are stacked like sun-bleached jewels above the stunning blue of the coastline. Lunch in Montepertuso, an enchanting hamlet that has a hilltop view from Praiano to Capri, the home of Mount Gambera, where legend has it the Virgin Mary battled the Devil, leaving evidence in the scars and holes in the rocky mountain.

Lightweight summer clothing and light layers are recommended, with sweaters and jackets advised for evenings and cooler months. Some terrain in Italy is uneven, and archaeological sites can be challenging for those who are not surefooted, so keep that in mind when booking your tour. Vehicles are accessible for a collapsible wheelchair or walker.

Bookings for this full day tour are available from March through November. Your tour includes an English-speaking driver, fuel, highway toll fees, and parking fees, but does not include entrance fees or tickets to local attractions or private guides. Entrance fee to visit Pompeii range in price from 13 to 16 Euro per person. A water bottle is provided, but additional food and beverages are not included in this tour, though there are times set aside for snack breaks and meals included in the day's schedule. Don't be afraid to ask your driver for suggestions on local restaurants and cafes that you may enjoy. At the end of this day long tour, your driver will return you to the cruise ship marina in Sorrento.

Nice personalized private tour
August 21, 2017
Knowledgeable guide/driver customized our private, family, small-group tour of this beautiful and fascinating area. He and we underestimated the amount of time we would want/need at Pompeii, but otherwise we accomplished a great day in a remarkably scenic coastal port of call.
