Rhum Distillery, Kimsha Beach and Lunch

Here's a rare opportunity to go behind the scenes of a popular, 6,000 square foot rum factory for an up-close look at how the handmade rums are created and processed.

The fun of your St. Maarten excursion begins as you leave the pier for a scenic drive to Topper's Rhum. This family owned and operated distillery that grew out of a complimentary after dinner drink the Topper restaurant patrons fell in love with. Your guide will lead you through a hands-on tour where you will learn about the history of rum making and observe the fermentation, distilling, filtering, blending and bottling processes. Head to the lab to learn about quality control measures and taste one of the more than 50 flavored rums in development. Over at the tasting bar you can sample rum-infused cake and artisanal products. While here, pop into the boutique shop for unique St. Maarten gifts and pick up a bottle or two of limited edition flavored rums that are only available on site.

Continue on to Kimsha Beach and be greeted with a welcome drink and enjoy a delicious lunch of traditional Caribbean BBQ. Sink your teeth into succulent chicken, rice and peas, fried plantains and West Indian sauteed vegetables, as you sip on rum or a fruit punch. Afterward you can relax on the warm sand and soak in the sun or take a refreshing swim. Enjoy a little snorkeling or other water sport, at an additional fee.

Your 4-hour St. Maarten tour concludes with a leisurely ride back to port. Reserve your spot now for some rum and fun under the beautiful St. Maarten sun.

So much fun, so much rhum and so much information.

We thoroughly enjoyed this excursion. We were met with rhum punch before our tour started. The tour was informational, we met the owners and tried approx 15 more rhum and some in recipes of chicken and desserts. The lunch was great but there was only one waitress/bartender and we didn’t get to the beach because of how long it took. We brought home char burned barrel rhum that tasted like bourbon and ordered more rhum to be delivered home.

Awesome Experience

We walked past the 100s of people in line to take ship offered excursions to a tent on the edge of the port area. Here we met a representative that directed us to the bus. The bus was full but only TWO of us got off at the distillery tour. Inside we were added to a group of 10. Tour was informative & hands on. 1st part was info, then off to another room where we cooked with rum and had samples of the food, gelato and more rum. Then we saw the bottling process and moved out to the store for LOTS of samples. Afterwards we had lunch. While we were eating lunch the owner sat down with us and told us stories. He was wonderful! Our driver arrived at designated time. He came in told us to take our time and when we were ready come to the bus. After dropping us off at beach he told us the return time and was there a few minutes early. We returned back to ship with no issues and lots of RHUM.

This was the best tour on our trip!

This truly was our favorite! Not because we tasted so much rum either, because I didn’t taste many! But we enjoyed getting to learn about Mr & Mrs Tripp and the entire rhum business. We did enjoy tasting the rhum. Gelato, and rhum cake, and the chicken cooked in rhum I was told was excellent. I didn’t get to taste it personally because I am allergic to pepper that was put in it. We purchased some to bring back to the states. We met Mr Tripp and he even came out to our table after the tour and sat down and talked with us. Best tour ever!!

Didn’t know what to expect just thought we would see rum factory but so much more. We tasted rum flavors we never knew existed. Not just a few but a lot. Also had a rum and chicken cooking lesson and sampled the results. Our guide was funny and very knowledgeable. Skipped the beach as the weather was rainy. Take the tour.

Fun!

We had a wonderful time at the Rhum Distillery! We were 15min late to the distillery because the driver stopped at an over-look going into town. Once there, the guide for the distillery started over! So we didn't miss anything. The guide was very energetic and the tour was fun. Lunch was at the location (not the beach) but it was a beautiful restaurant looking over the marina and we had a chance to shop and visit with the staff. The driver picked us up and took us to Maho Beach (where the planes fly over). It was Great! No problems with pickup and drop off at the Princess port.

Not your Average Distillery Tour

Probably the best distillery tour I have ever taken. We started the tour with a delicious rum punch at their beautiful restaurant which juts out into the harbor. After that, we started our tour. The guide was funny, informative and energetic. And the rum and food samples flowed. We started in the classroom where she told us about the many types of rum they make. Sample, sample, sample. Then we went into the kitchen to watch the staff bake rum cake. Sample. Then there was a cooking demonstration. Sample, Then onto the distillery and gift shop. Sample, sample, sample. Our tour included lunch in the restaurant, which was delicious, and included (you guessed it!) another rum punch drink! After, we were taken to Kimsha Beach for an hour or so. The (public) beach was okay, and the bar at the beach was pretty good. You could rent lounge chairs if you want, but we were happy just walking around the area doing a little shopping and then sitting in the bar area.
