Rhum Distillery, Maho Beach and Lunch
Rum and sun, what could be better? During this 6-hour St. Maarten tour you will have a rare opportunity to visit the back scenes of a popular, 6,000 square foot rum factory, dine on delicious food and hang out on one of St. Maarten's most popular beaches.
Your St. Maarten excursion starts as you leave the pier for a scenic drive to Topper's Rhum, a family owned and operated distillery that grew out of a complimentary after dinner drink the Topper restaurant patrons fell in love with. Your guide will lead you through a hands-on tour where you will learn about the history of rum making, rum making in the Caribbean and observe the fermentation, distilling, filtering, blending and bottling process. Head to the lab to learn about the quality control measures and taste one of the more than 50 flavored rums in development; over at the tasting bar you can sample rum-infused cake and artisanal products. While here, pop into the boutique shop for unique St. Maarten gifts and pick up a bottle or two of limited edition flavors that are only available on site.
From there you will head across to Topper's Restaurant on Kimsha Beach where you will be greeted with a welcome drink and then enjoy an appetizing lunch of traditional Caribbean BBQ. Dine on chicken, rice and peas, fried plantains and West Indian sauteed vegetables as you sip on rum or a fruit punch.
After lunch, make your way to Maho Beach where you can take a refreshing swim or relax on the warm sand and work on your vacation-envy tan. This beach lies directly under the flight path of a neighboring airport, making it a popular destination for aviation fans and those who want to feel the vibration of jumbo jets as they literally soar right above you for a landing.
Your tour concludes with a leisurely ride back to port. Skip the typical city tours and experience St. Maarten like a local.

We truly enjoyed this tour. The host at the Rhum Distillery was charming and full of interesting facts. We really liked that the tour group was small, only 8 of us. The box lunch from Toppers was delicious. Could have done without the beach stop, it was very crowded and we had trouble finding a spot posit and have our lunch.
