Sun Valley Plantation
Sun Valley Plantation
Enjoy a 45-minute scenic countryside drive as we take you to Crescent Oracabessa, east of Ocho Rios, where the Sun Valley Plantation is located.
This is a working plantation and botanical farm owned and operated by Lorna and Nolly Binns. It sits along the Crescent River. On this Ocho Rios excursion, you will be treated to personal service every step of the way, as Lorna and her staff take you through a piece of Jamaican history and culture you will never forget. They offer enjoyable garden tours in a plantation setting.
Upon arrival, all guests are greeted with a welcome drink made with the current fruit in season.
You will have fun meeting and leisurely strolling about with your host on lands that are steeped in history, and have been producing a vast variety of tropical fruits and food for over 250 years. The 90-minute tour of the plantation tells the story of the property from the slave era to present day.
Learn about tropical fruits and plants, and the therapeutic and medicinal values of the trees, herbs, and spices that grow plentifully on the plantation. Along the way, you can sample a variety of fruits straight from the trees, like the mysterious jelly (coconut), Otaheite apple and other exotic fruits (depending on what is in season).
Keep your eyes open for hummingbirds and other local birds. This tour is a treat for the eyes, ears, nose and taste buds.
At the end of your tour on the plantation, you will have the opportunity to taste several of the regional dishes, along with a variety of natural juices.
Please Note: Tour takes place outside. There is no large plantation Great House as you might see in the southern United States.
Brian, an owner of the farm, was our host. He knows all the plants, all the animals, and is friends with the birds. This tour was the highlight of our trip.

The tour was very interesting, and the lunch was also very unique, cooked from the different fruits on the plantation. It wasn't really a plantation as I expected, with lots of workers, etc., but more or less just a small farm with lots of different trees. But the owner (guide) made it very informative. It was quite a drive from the ship, but we got a good view of the country side. It was a bit pricey, but I would recommend it as something to do in Jamaica.

From our driver to our tour guide we had a wonderful experience, learning about Jamaican history and the incredible plants that were on the plantation. The tour was concluded with a fabulous variety of the plantation's fruits for us to sample, as well as some fruit juices to try. My husband and I definitely recommend this tour for anyone looking to learn about the "real" Jamaica!

The Sun Valley Plantation was a delightful tour and so personalized. This was a walking tour. We were guided through the plantation in a leisurely manner with detailed information on all that was grown there. The food samples were delicious and added to the experience! If you are curious about how fruit is grown this would be the tour for you! I loved it and could have spent more time there. Thanks to Brian & Lorna!

I wasn’t sure what to expect but this tour is a walk around a family farm. The bulk of the property is banana and coconuts but the area we saw was filled with a variety of fruits and vegetables. The guide is a family member who was fun and informative. At the end we were served plates of the fruits we just saw ( and some fish). It was delicious and homey. A definite go see if you like gardening.
