Wailua River Cruise and Grotto
The Wailua River is a long, slowly meandering river that starts at the Wai'ale'ale Crater and is fed by many tributaries on its way to the ocean. It is the only navigable river in Hawaii.
For a unique Hawaiian Wailua River cruise, travel upriver to the sacred Fern Grotto, a lava rock grotto covered with tropical ferns. The grotto is renowned for the Hawaiian musicians who will serenade you with traditional local songs, including the famous "Hawaiian Wedding Song." The superior acoustics within this natural amphitheater greatly enhance the music.
The Kauai tour up the river usually takes approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes on a long, flat-bottom riverboat, during which you will encounter kayakers, motorboats and water skiers along the way. There'll be many great photo opportunities of tropical grasslands lining the river and the majestic cloud-covered Mt. Waialeale in the background. You will also enjoy the overlook at Opaekaa Falls -- another romantic stop that will surely secure your love of this garden island.

My husband and I both enjoyed this excursion. The bus driver was great, the trip along the river was fun and the visit to the fern grotto was wonderful.
Enjoyed the casual easy going tour. The hosts were very helpful with people with handicaps. I loved the Hula dance. It was so graceful and the real version of the Hawaiian Wedding Song was well done. Ty M Tassinari

We enjoyed the relaxing trip on the Wailua River and the ceremony at the Fern Grotto. Our driver gave us an overview of the island as we traveled from the port to the river, great information and very knowledgeable. Enjoyed the singing and dancing while traveling up river. Best of all the walk up to the grotto and back. The only word to describe the landscape is BEAUTIFUL.

We were met just off the boat by Edmonds, who was pleasant and made us feel at home. The cruise was relaxing and had 3 Hawaiian musicians on board for entertainment.
