Ancient Luxor Tour

This action-packed tour takes you to Karnak Temple, Colossi of Memnon, Hatshepsut Temple at El Deir El Bahary and the Valley of the Kings.

You will travel in a small group and be personally greeted at the port by your English-speaking Egyptologist guide who will take you to an air-conditioned vehicle for an approximate 3 hour ride out to Luxor. Admire the scenery as your guide shares stories and points out items of interest. Stop at the famous Karnak Temple, a vast open air museum filled with decaying temples, chapels and pylons. This second largest ancient religious site in the world has four sections (one which is open to the public) and was built between the Middle Kingdom and the Greco Roman Kingdom. Take a photo of Hypostyle Hall, a cavernous hall area containing 134 massive columns ranging in height from 10 to 21 meters.

Enjoy authentic Egyptian food at a nearby restaurant then head to the West Bank of the Nile River to see the colossal statues of Amenhotep III (Colossi of Memnon). These 18 meter tall twin statues depict the 14th century Pharoah, and were built to guard his memorial temple. From there you will travel to the Valley of the Kings where 63 tombs and chambers hold ancient kings and privileged nobles. Carved deep into desert rock, these tombs were richly outfitted with decorations and treasures for the departed to use in the afterlife. At Hatshepsut Temple you will see an ancient funerary shrine dedicated to Hatshepsut, the only female Pharoah. This enormous, multi-terraced temple is situated beneath the looming cliffs at El Deir El Bahary. From there you will be escorted back to your ship.

Reserve your spot now for an unforgettable day steeped in the history and majesty of Luxor.

Please Note: This 13 hour tour includes transportation, bottled water and lunch. Guests must be able to climb steps and walk. excellent tour!

My husband and I were the only ones on this tour. Zach was our guide, and he brought two drivers. We were picked up at our cruise ship, in an air conditioned van.Zach was courteous/thoughtful and extremely knowledgeable of the history of the area.It was very hot [46C], the day we had our tour, and our guide Zach made sure we were constantly supplied with water bottles, and comfortable. We felt safe on our tour, and I know for a fact we saw A LOT MORE of Luxor, than the groups who went on the cruise ship tour [large buses] husband and I talked to others who couldn't believe how much we managed to see on one tour day with Zach and our two excellent drivers. Lunch was included and very tasty.

We booked this tour for when our cruise ship stopped at Safaga. As soon as the ship docked we were met by our guide, Peter, and a driver who brought us to a waiting minibus (this was our only complaint - the seats weren't very comfortable). We first visited Karnak temple and spent most of the morning exploring there. Then we travelled into Luxor where we had lunch. While we had lunch our driver took the minibus to the far side of the Nile so that when we finished lunch we walked to the Nile and a boat was arranged for us to cross. On then to a photo stop at the Colossi of Memnon, and thence to the Valley of Kings. Apparently guides are not allowed into the tombs but Peter prepared us before entering as to what we should look out for. From there we went to the Temple of Hatshepsut where Peter recounted tales of political intrigue in Ancient Egypt, with the aid of the wall paintings. It was a hot and tiring day but very worthwhile and we both really enjoyed it. Thank you Peter.
