Historic Rincon with Local Guide

Discover the historic charm and vibrant culture of Bonaire with our Rincon shore excursion, starting from the picturesque port of Kralendijk. This tour, led by a local guide, offers a deep dive into the island's oldest village, Rincon, known for its rich history and cultural significance.

Settled by the Spanish in the early 1500s, Rincon Village stands as the oldest continuous community within the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba. Tucked away in a strategic valley, this quaint village was once a shelter against pirate invasions and other threats. You'll journey through time as we explore the village's storied past, including its pivotal role during the 17th century when slaves worked in the salt pans and tended crops until their emancipation in 1863.

Our tour will also offer a glimpse into the lives of these slaves, who embarked on a 7-hour journey to work in the south and returned on weekends to gather supplies at the Magazina di Rei (King's storehouse) and reunite with their families.

A highlight of the excursion is a visit to the Cadushy Distillery, where you can taste the unique local cactus liquor, a speciality of Bonaire. This complimentary tasting is a chance to experience the island's traditional flavors in a truly authentic setting.

Next, we'll stop at Posada Para Mira, a local restaurant renowned for its native island cuisine. Here, you can indulge in the rich culinary heritage of Bonaire (note: food and drinks are not included in the tour price, giving you the flexibility to indulge in your preferred dishes from the local menu).

This comprehensive tour includes several other noteworthy stops, allowing you to experience the best of Kralendijk and its surroundings. From the historic Washington Park Museum to the exhilarating Bonaire Land Sailing Adventures and the panoramic views at Seru Largu, each destination showcases Bonaire's cultural and natural beauty.

Join us on this memorable exploration of this historical gem nestled in the heart of the Netherlands Antilles as we combine historical exploration with a taste of local life and flavors.
