Built in 1837 as a thriving sugarcane plantation, Oak Alley showcases elegant antebellum architecture while sharing the story of its rise, decline following the Civil War, and ongoing preservation efforts by the nonprofit Oak Alley Foundation, which now cares for the estate's 25 acres.

Your New Orleans plantation tour then continues to Whitney Plantation, the only plantation museum in Louisiana dedicated exclusively to telling the story of slavery in the United States. Situated on the site of a former sugar, indigo, and rice plantation that operated from 1752 to 1975, Whitney Plantation offers a powerful and educational experience through immersive exhibits, preserved 18th- and 19th-century buildings, and first-person narratives that honor the lives of the enslaved people who lived and worked there.
