As we travel through to the Port Arthur Historic Site, we make a short stop along the way at the stunning Tasman National Park Lookout. Here your eco-certified Tour Guide will introduce you to the surrounding area famous for its towering sea cliffs.
Here we will also view the local landscape with its narrow isthmus, a feature that assisted with this area being selected as a convict settlement. We enjoy a visit to the Tasmanian Devil Unzoo to experience the snarling action of a Tasmanian Devil feeding! A not-to-be-missed experience while in Tasmania. You will have time to wander the grounds, hand-feed the Wallabies, and learn about the local wildlife from the Unzoo's passionate staff. This is a great experience, in a scenic setting, with opportunities to experience native wildlife close at hand. From here we travel directly to the Port Arthur Historic Site.
Port Arthur Historic Site is a World Heritage Site providing a vivid reflection on our convict past. With over 30 buildings, ruins and restored period homes set in 40 hectares of landscaped grounds there is plenty to explore during our visit here. We can walk amongst the main penitentiary; see the solitary confinement cells and discover the rich history and beautiful surrounds of this evocative World Heritage open air museum. Deemed an inescapable prison your visit here will unveil the grim and violent history of the early Australian Penal system.
This fascinating day will give you great insight into what it was like to be sent to Van Diemen's Land as a convict. Port Arthur's expert staff offer fascinating site talks throughout the grounds. Your entry also includes a complimentary Harbor Cruise around the Isle of the Dead. Snacks, lunch and drinks are not included; however, there is ample opportunity to purchase refreshments and lunch at the Port Arthur Historic Site.
